Hints for job interview

  • Be aware of what the company is doing, which are the main products/services, know about its history, etc.
  • Find out exactly the content of the offered job and be ready to compare it with your previous experience; think through some earlier situations at work that you can use as examples.
  • Prepare to answer typical questions:
    • What motivated you to apply for the given position?
    • What were the reasons you left the previous company?
    • What were your tasks at your previous position?
    • What are your strengths/weaknesses?
    • How do you see your career in the next five years?
    • What are your expectations for salary?
    • What do you do in your spare time?
    • When are you ready to start at the new position?
  • Think through how to explain your motivation to the interviewer.
  • Find out the place and time for the appointment beforehand; write down the data of the contact person so that you could let him/her know when something unexpected happens.
  • Dress accordingly.
  • Be there on time (better earlier than late).
  • Switch off your mobile phone.
  • Check your body language (do not fidget), do not avoid eye contact.
  • Listen carefully to what is asked and answer to what is asked.
  • If possible, answer in full sentences.
  • Do not vilify previous employers.
  • Do not stress your personal problems (loans, leases, etc.).
  • Be ready to ask questions from the interviewer:
    • Why is the given position vacant?
    • What do you think are the main challenges for the new employee?
    • When do you want the new employee to start working in your company?
    • When and how do the candidates receive feedback?
